A record El Niño is forecast to peak this winter — and unlike almost any other disaster, it published its itinerary months in advance. The dispatches follow it through the world's food system to the May 2027 harvest: the forecast, the funding, and the field.
What a dispatch is
One chart from the project's evidence layer, one field note, and the clocks — what is ahead and when. The project tracks 37 sites in nine regional windows; two legs are booked: eastern Australia in October, southern Malawi at planting in November, and the same households again at harvest in May 2027. Either outcome files.
No fixed cadence is promised before the legs begin. When the field starts talking, the dispatches speed up.
